Glenalmond Musicians Shine in a Season Full of Performances

Our talented musicians have enjoyed an exceptionally busy and rewarding few weeks, showcasing their skills across a series of wonderful events both on campus and in the wider community.

This week’s lunchtime concert also offered our ABRSM exam candidates a valuable final opportunity to perform their pieces publicly. The audience enjoyed a varied programme featuring works by Fauré and Purcell, a traditional Scottish piece, and a challenging flute composition by Ian Clarke. Many thanks to all who performed, and best of luck to candidates sitting exams on Tuesday.

Our flute ensemble was among the many performers who took part in the Fowlis Wester Carol Concert, contributing beautifully to a truly memorable evening. We extend our thanks to all performers and organisers for creating such a special event.

The musical celebrations continued on the evening of our Autumn Concert, which once again highlighted the depth of talent within Glenalmond. The evening opened with the orchestra, featuring a piece composed by our own violin teacher, Mr Mark Wilson- a fitting start that saw staff and pupils sharing the stage and setting the tone for a superb programme.

A diverse series of solo performances followed, with Molly, Caitlin, Savva, Thomas, Archie, Robyn, Morla and Paula all delivering outstanding pieces that showcased an impressive range of instruments, styles and personalities. The Flute Ensemble added a touch of seasonal charm and film nostalgia with their delightful renditions of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Married Life from Pixar’s Up.

Towards the end of the concert, the Chapel Choir offered a reflective moment with two beautifully contrasting works, demonstrating the continued strength of Glenalmond’s choral tradition. The evening concluded in rousing fashion with our Senior Piper Quartet, whose dynamic performances of Moonstar, Campbeltown Kiltie Ball, Wise Maid, Call to the Gathering and Jiggernaught ensured that the audience left with smiles- and a few tunes still ringing in their ears.

We also extend warm congratulations to Morla B, who achieved a fantastic fifth place out of 28 in last week’s Caritas Banner- another achievement to celebrate.

Our sincere thanks go to all our performers, the Music Department staff for their preparation and support, and the families and friends who joined us to celebrate the exceptional musical life of Glenalmond.
