We are thrilled to share that OG, Reiff Gaskell (Patchell's 2011-2016), has won Silver at the Cannes Lions Young Directors Award for his striking short film, Cuerpos- a major accolade that places him firmly on the global filmmaking map.

A recent graduate of the National Film and Television School's (NFTS) MA Direction Fiction course, Reiff wrote and directed Cuerpos, a powerful Spanish-language period short set in post-Civil War Spain. The film follows a young maid on her first day of work as she navigates the emotional and physical collapse of the household she has entered- a story as visually captivating as it is emotionally raw.

Reiff filmed Cuerpos on location in Spain with a dedicated international team, and the project is now entering the festival circuit. Winning Silver at Cannes Lions' prestigious Young Directors Award marks a monumental milestone in his burgeoning career.

“Getting into NFTS was a dream I set my sights on while still at Glenalmond,” Reiff shares. “To complete that journey this year, and to have Cuerpos recognised on such a stage, is beyond words.”

Alongside stills and behind-the-scenes imagery, Reiff’s submission stood out for its emotional weight, directorial precision, and cinematic boldness- qualities that echo the discipline, creativity, and ambition he nurtured from his Coll days.

Reiff says: "Cuerpos was initially envisioned as a feature, and then I adapted it to create this proof of concept as a first step. Having built the team and the story, we are now building an independent and international co-production between Scotland and Spain that will realise it. If anyone is interested in being involved, we would love them to get in touch."

We extend our warmest congratulations to Reiff on this outstanding achievement. We can’t wait to see where his journey takes him next. You can see more about Reiff's work here.
