The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of Scotland’s most prestigious annual events, bringing together a dazzling array of music, military precision, and cultural celebration against the breathtaking backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.
This year, it was made even more special for Glenalmond, as two of our distinguished former Pipe Majors- Iain MacInnes and Roddy Kilpatrick- graced the Castle Esplanade stage.
Although their time at Glenalmond was separated by 44 years, both OGs played key roles throughout August in what remains one of the most globally recognised showcases of piping and performance. Their presence on such an iconic platform is a proud reflection of the school’s long-standing musical traditions.

Champions on the Competition Stage
Our piping community’s success isn’t limited to the Castle Esplanade. Congratulations are also in order for OGs Ben Elliott and Thomas Pounder, who are members of the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band. The band was recently crowned European Champions in Grade 4B and went on to earn the coveted title of Champion of Champions 2025- a phenomenal end to a standout competition season.
These remarkable achievements- both in performance and in competition- are a testament to the strength and depth of piping at Glenalmond. From school parades to global stages, our pipers continue to make us proud.
