Saturday 16th August 2025 saw the return of the much-loved Almondbank Golf Day at Glenalmond College- now in its fourth year- and once again, the event brought together friends, fun, and a fantastic cause.
Started in memory of a local man, Davie, who sadly passed away from cancer, the annual event was established by a group of friends from Almondbank and the surrounding area. Davie had trained guide dogs for the blind, so the group decided to honour his legacy by raising funds to sponsor a guide dog each year. Additional proceeds are donated to Cornhill Macmillan Hospice in Perth, a cause close to many of the participants’ hearts.
The golf day has grown in both size and spirit each year, and 2025 was no exception- with an incredible £6,194 raised after costs. The organisers would like to thank Glenalmond College for generously providing the golf course once again.
Each team traditionally includes one non-golfer to keep things interesting, and two local participants take it a step further by dressing up for the occasion. This year, they appeared as none other than "Gin and Tonic"- a bold choice in the weekend’s sweltering heat!
Over the past few years, the group has already sponsored three guide dogs:
Almond, the first dog, is now fully trained and working.
Reiche, named in memory of another much-loved member of the community who passed away suddenly, is also now in service. Reiche was the husband of Shona, one of our College matrons.
The latest dog, Cairn, is currently undergoing training and making great progress.
This event continues to be a heartwarming example of community spirit and a fitting tribute to those dearly missed. A huge congratulations to all involved!
