Glenalmond College’s Commemoration Day 2025 took place in glorious sunshine on Saturday 28 June, marking the official end of term and a fitting celebration of our Upper Sixth leavers and prizewinners.
The day began with coffee and warm welcomes in the Recital Hall before pupils, parents, staff and guests gathered in Chapel for a moving Commemoration Service. Lucy Elphinstone, Executive Principal of the Glenalmond Schools Group, delivered an inspiring address that encouraged the audience to look back, to look forward, to look inwards, and to look up.
At midday, the community assembled in the Gannochy for the Prize Giving Ceremony. Mr Ian Gray OBE (OG), the outgoing Chairman of Council, opened proceedings, followed by the Warden, Mr Mark Mortimer, who reflected on the year and the accomplishments of the Class of 2025. Our guest speaker, Liz Smith CBE MSP, shared words of encouragement with our leavers, telling them to lead well when their opportunity comes. The Captains of College 2024-2025, Olivia M and Oli R, gave a heartfelt farewell speech before the formalities concluded with a speech by Professor Basak Akdemir, CEO of 35 Education, and a rousing rendition of Carmen, led by Ian Gray.
Following the ceremony, families enjoyed picnics on the Front Lawn and a popular ice cream truck proved a welcome treat under the summer sun. The afternoon continued with a Royal Navy Section Field Gun Display by the CCF. Pupil exhibitions in the Art, Design, and Library departments offered a glimpse into the creativity and history of the College.
The final highlight of the day came with an outstanding performance by the Glenalmond College Pipe Band in Front Quad, providing a stirring close to a memorable celebration.
We wish all our Upper Sixth pupils the very best as they embark on the next chapter – and we thank the entire Glenalmond community for making this year’s Commem one to remember.
