In Loving Memory of Noel Barrington Prowse (Mr. BP)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved former teacher, Noel Barrington Prowse, affectionately known to many as Mr. BP. He left us on January 2nd, 2025.

Noel joined Glenalmond College in 1966 as a bachelor and dedicated over 30 years to our school community, retiring in 1997 as Vice Warden. During his distinguished career, he served as Housemaster of Reid’s House for 13 years and played a pivotal role in establishing Lothian House, the first girls' boarding house, assisting his wife Sue, Mrs BP.

Noel's journey at Glenalmond was not just about his history lessons! Most afternoons were spent on the grounds, where he passionately coached rugby, cricket, hockey, and athletics. Noel coached 1st XV rugby (incl. an unbeaten tour to Canada), the infamous 5th XV, 1st XI hockey, and numerous athletes in track & field. Reid’s House were always competitive and well known for its strong tug-of-war team over the years! Additionally, the success of the Pipe Band can be attributed, in part, to Noel’s dedicated management.

As well as teaching, Glenalmond was also where he met and married Sue, and where they welcomed their two children, Melissa and Dominic. After retirement, Noel and Sue moved to Devon, but he always cherished staying in contact with his former students and was always eager to hear about their lives.

Noel's health had been declining, and he was admitted to hospital on Christmas Day with a chest infection. While his death was not entirely unexpected, it has still come as a shock to all who knew him.

We invite the Glenalmond community—especially our ex-teachers and alumni—to share their memories and condolences in honor of Noel’s incredible legacy. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed. You can reach Dom at dombprowse@gmail.com

His funeral will be held in Devon, on Friday 7th February. More details to follow.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sue, Melissa, Dom, and their families during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Mr. BP. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
