John was born in Glasgow in 1942 to Jack and May Steven and after attending Glasgow Academy, moved to Glenalmond in 1955. While at the school he won an English speaking scholarship to Stoney Brook School in Long Island, New York.

On returning to the UK he studied to become a chartered accountant and worked in industry before finishing his career in a senior finance role with the Church of Scotland. The Church was important to him throughout his life and being able to assist congregations with their finances brought him great satisfaction.

He also met his wife Sheilah through the Church and was an active member of the Lenzie Union Parish Church, including serving as treasurer for many years.

John is survived by his wife Sheilah, his daughter, Catriona, his son, Chris and his four grandaughters aged 4 to 16. Both his children have followed in his footsteps into the world of finance.

His family and friends will all miss a kind and caring man who would always go the extra mile to help others.
