Management consultancy, then the paper industry. Set up a Packaging business in 1976, now run by his son Euan (Patchells) 1978-82.
Became involved in numeracy teaching for primary-aged pupils. Set up a business and also gained his PhD from Durham relating to numeracy acquisition in primary-aged pupils.
Keen sportsman. Represented Scotland at the Cardiff Empire games in hammer. Played squash and basketball at University and in the army as a gunner. Became a good golfer, playing for the OGGS and at the Halford Hewitt. Played well into his late 80s.
Keen amateur archaeologist, which took him to St Kilda on numerous occasions.
He leaves 2 Children and 5 Grand Children
