On Friday 24th June Glenalmond College held its first whole school Eco Day. The day kicked off with a series of different lectures from our Coll Community. Topics ranged from Ethical Farming by parent, Charlotte Blackler from Herb Majesty, Sustainable Design by parent and founder of Black and Blum, Dan Black, Transform Your Garden into a Wildlife Habitat by OG, Nigel Roberts, and Seona Anderson on Sustainable Textiles and Building Materials, to talks on Gold Mining and its Environmental Impact from Head of History, Darren Tolan and The Issues of Industrial Fish Farming in Scotland by Robbie Galbraith, Lower Sixth pupil. Local resident, botanist, and Carrifran Wildwood longtime supporter, Crinan Alexander, spoke about Forestry versus Woodland in Scotland.
The pupils then took part in activities all over the campus which included 'testing the waters' down on the River Almond, a 'leaf litter deep dive', wildlife walks, gardening to create habitat in our very own Eco Garden, art using natural dyes, sustainable cooking, an energy audit, yoga in nature and eco drama to name but a few. A fantastic, thought-provoking time was had by all.
