Glenalmond College is proud to celebrate the outstanding success of the Doddie Grand Tour 2025, an epic 700-mile cycling challenge across Scotland. Organised by former Scotland rugby captain and Glenalmond alumni Rob Wainwright, the event has already raised over £580,000 for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, with donations still coming in.

The Glenalmond College team was the only one to feature current pupils, and they took part alongside 30 other teams. The Tour journey spanned four days and went from Stranrear to Kelso to Glenalmond to Stonehaven with final leg coming into Edinburgh on Saturday, 8 February. Riders were greeted by cheering crowds and an electric atmosphere when they crossed the finish line. The event was a powerful tribute to rugby legend Doddie Weir, uniting participants in their mission to support MND research.

The Tour route included an overnight stop at Glenalmond College on Thursday, 6 February. Adding a touch of Hollywood, actor Gerard Butler, a close friend of Rob Wainwright, made a surprise visit. The College was delighted to offer the teams rest and refreshments before they tackled one of the Tour’s most challenging segments on Day Three: the gruelling 5.3-mile, 1,185-foot climb at Glenshee.

Rob Wainwright’s leadership and passion were the driving forces behind this inspiring event.

Glenalmond Warden, Mark Mortimer reflected: “We are immensely proud of Rob and everyone involved in the Doddie Grand Tour, especially our own team of pupils and staff. This challenge embodies the values of resilience, teamwork, and community - core principles we nurture here at Glenalmond. It’s been an honour to support this cause and witness our young people gain such invaluable experience.”
