On September 8th, 2025, a contingent from Glenalmond College’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) was honoured to attend a deeply significant national event- the Royal Salute at Edinburgh Castle, commemorating the third anniversary of His Majesty King Charles III’s accession to the throne.
The event marked three years since King Charles III succeeded Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022, following her passing. To honour the occasion, a poignant 21-gun salute was fired by the esteemed 105th Regiment Royal Artillery, with support from international allies in the 160th US Army National Guard- a powerful display of both military precision and international camaraderie.
We are particularly proud to highlight the involvement of Staff sergeant (SSgt) Nik Murray RLC Regimental catering warrant officer (RCWO) 105 regiment RA in the role of the Detachment commander No2 Gun, a valued member of Glenalmond’s catering team, who played an active ceremonial role in the gun salute. SSgt Murray kindly extended an invitation to Glenalmond Sergeant Major Green and Cadet Annabelle D., who was recently named Best Recruit 2024-2025, to attend the ceremony.
Their presence at such a momentous occasion- in the historic setting of Edinburgh Castle, and during a symbolic tribute to the monarch- was a unique and unforgettable experience. It reflects not only the strength of our school community but also the real-world connections that enrich the experience of our cadets and staff alike.
The thunderous salute, echoing across the castle esplanade, served as a moving reminder of the continuity of service and tradition that underpins both the British Armed Forces and our own CCF programme here at Glenalmond.
