Funeral arrangements to be shared in due course.

Neil Burns

We are very sorry to inform you all of the death of Neil Burns. Neil was a committed member of the society, even turning out for the society as recently as the Scottish Wayfarers back in March. A fine golfer, Neil played for the society at the Halford Hewitt. He (and his famous pipe) will be greatly missed.

Gordon Thorburn

Some of you will already know this, especially Royal and Ancient and Royal Wimbledon members, but I am afraid to report some very sad news regarding Gordon Thorburn, who passed away on Saturday 8th January.

Gordon had been a stalwart of the society. and was captain from 2001 to 2003, and then president from 2007 to 2011.

Gordon was a fine golfer, representing the college at the Halford Hewitt in a career that spanned from 1973 to 1992. He played in 13 tournaments and earned 21 caps, with a 57.4% win ratio. He formed impressive partnerships with Tim Bull and KP Walker, winning 80% and 72% of his matches with them respectively. Latterly, he was a keen supporter of the society at Deal and was often seen with his shooting stick cheering on the side and enjoying dinner and drinks at the team hotel.

He also played in the Cyril Gray side, and was also keenly involved with the Royal Wimbledon putting tournament,

The memorial service took place on 1st March at St Mary's Church, Wimbledon.
