No matter how much planning goes into preparing teams for events such as this, surprises always seem to do their best to upset the applecart. Injuries to elderly players are predictable, but clubs being stolen overnight from a car may well be a first in OG history. Nevertheless, on the morning of the 22nd of July, a team of two pairs and one half pair were ready to take on a total of 18 pairs, on the immaculately prepared West Sussex Course. With no rain for six weeks, the fairways were fast and firm, and overall the scores were better than usual, with three pairs on 35 points fighting for second place.

Our first pair of Tim Worlledge and Lennox Batten scored 29 points, no doubt handicapped by the clubs rented from the pro. John Riddick and Jeremy Kinghorn, with 33 points, came fifth, and but for a blob on the 18th would have been involved in the countback for second place.

However, praise must go to Hunter Maclean, who was playing with his wife (not an OG!) and won the competition with a magnificent 36 points. The photograph below shows Hunter with his trophy, surrounded by the OG pairs basking in his glory.

This concludes our golf programme for 2026, and with prizes at both the Anniesland Trophy and the Loretto Foursomes, this must be our most successful for some years.
