The Heartbreak Run at Glenalmond College has been a much-loved highlight of College life since its launch in 2016.
Held on the final Sunday of the Michaelmas term, the challenging 8.3 mile route, with over 1,100 ft of elevation gain, is certainly not for the faint-hearted. What began with just 12 pupils and staff has grown impressively each year.
This year, despite thick fog and very wet conditions underfoot, an outstanding 60 runners took part: 53 pupils ranging from 3rd to 6th form, 2 OGs and 5 members of staff.
OG Jamie Sandison claimed victory in a time of 1:10:54, while the first pupil home was Christian Rathsack, in a photo finish with Jakob Schmidt in a time of 1:11:49. The first female home was Sarah Kent, an exchange student from St Anne’s Diocesan College in South Africa, who was clearly not deterred by our cold Scottish weather!
A huge thank you to all the families and friends who generously supported our chosen charity, Children of Heroes, together we raised over £700. Thank you also to the team of dedicated staff who helped to ensure the event ran seamlessly.
Next year marks the 10 year anniversary of the Heartbreak Run, and we would be delighted to welcome back as many OGs back as possible, especially past winners. If you’d like to take part, please get in touch with catharinefleming@glenalmondcollege.co.uk
